Fabrication assessment - Underside

Adam Saxton
6/5/2025

After a visual inspection of the underside of the vehicle it has become clear that there are many areas that have varying degrees of corrosion.
Starting at the rear of the car corrosion is present on both the right and left sides of the boot floor and should be replaced in its entirety. The same level of corrosion is also present on the rear floor pan support that also has a snapped bolt that will need to be removed. The rear right chassis rail is also affected by corrosion and will need to be repaired in order to regain its structural integrity.
Moving along to the middle of the car my attention is drawn to the middle sections of the chassis rails. Although these look in the mist part of sound structure, there are poor previous repair works that in my opinion should be removed and replaced with a correctly fabricated panel to provide an as new finish.
Unfortunately the floor pans and sills have suffered badly with corrosion and would ideally need to be replace in their entirety to provide a long lasting repair.
Towards the front of the vehicle unfortunately there is poor previous welding present to the frontal parts of the chassis rails.

Moving onto the inner wheel arches there are numerous holes and areas or corrosion present in all. Ideally these will need to be replaced with new panels to provide a repair that is a level above the usual method of 'patching' a repair. As with all the works listed above the repair will be performed to a standard that is not only structurally but also visually akin the factory built car.

Fabrication Assessment - Body

After performing a visual inspection of the bodywork of the vehicle a few areas of concern were brought to light.Starting with the panels of the car it is apparent that there is some warpage and incorrect shaping to both of the doors, this will be remedied by straightening and shrinking the stretched material back t the correct shape. Small dents are present in the boot lid and bonnet, these will also need to be shrank and massaged back to their original contours. The roof appears to have some pitting present in numerous areas, these are covered with a primer but I hope that we will be able to rectify this issue by cleaning back and properly treating the metal without the need for any replacement.Moving onto the front wings there are patches of previous repair work on both at the lower sections that will need to be correctly repaired by removing these and replacing them with correctly fabricated panels and fitted in a way as to make the panel follow its original contours and blend seamlessly. The rear left quarter panel is mis shaped and showing signs of corrosion and will potentially be best repaired by replacing the panel in its entirety. the rear right rear quarter is in a lot better condition and would benefit from some additional shaping potentially using lead. Finally corrosion and pitting has been discovered on the windscreen reveal and the grill surround.

Both front seats suffer with the vinyl loosening, Creating a ‘baggy look’ , Aswell as Holes and tears on Both Seat bases. They also suffer from discolouration in the vinyl and also oxidisation in the chrome trims on both sides.
