Introducing Auto RARA’s virtual design studio: explore what your classic could become

Explore Auto RARA’s virtual design studio through E-Type concept studies and a customer’s Cobra design journey, from research to a practical plan.

See how colour, trim and detail could work together on your own car before committing to physical changes. Auto RARA’s research AI agents, design AI agents and technicians help you explore the options, with your ideas and decisions brought together through the build diary.

You do not need to arrive with a finished design. You may have a colour in mind, an image that captures the character you like, or a clear idea of how you want to use the car. Auto RARA Studio helps you develop those starting points into a direction you can see, discuss and refine with the team.

Start with your own car

Your car’s condition, history and intended use shape the work. Our classic car assessment establishes what is there, what matters to you and what needs closer investigation.

Controlled reference photographs provide a consistent starting point for visual development. By keeping the viewpoints and proportions consistent, we can compare ideas without losing sight of the car that makes the project yours.

That matters when several choices interact. A paint colour may suit the body beautifully, but feel different once you see it alongside the proposed trim, wheels or exterior details. Looking at the whole car helps you judge the combination.

Give the ideas a foundation

Research AI agents investigate the car’s heritage, design language, cultural influences and relevant technical sources. Auto RARA’s team reviews those findings and considers what they could mean for your project.

The research might inform a period-inspired colour direction, highlight a detail worth preserving or suggest a design influence to explore. It gives the conversation a useful starting point while leaving room for your own taste.

Design AI agents then help turn those ideas into visual alternatives. Paint, trim and exterior details can be explored together, from a sympathetic restoration direction to a more individual restomod concept.

You can compare what appeals to you, see how one decision changes the overall impression, and refine the direction with the people who will assess its practical implications.

Develop the direction together

The build diary brings research, design options, revisions and decisions into a shared record. You contribute your preferences and your connection to the car. Auto RARA technicians contribute their practical experience. The AI agents support the research and visual development.

Keeping those decisions together also preserves the reasons behind them. The team can see what has been selected, what remains open and which ideas need measurements, samples or specialist input.

The result is a clearer conversation between owner and team, with a design direction that can be carried into the next stage of the project.

Exploring possibilities with the E Type

Our E-Type studies show how different choices can change the character of a familiar shape. An original-specification visual reference provides the starting point for exploring colour, trim and a café-racer-inspired direction.

Black Nickel bodywork with black exterior trim creates one interpretation; Racing Green with chrome trim offers another. Seeing the choices as part of the whole car makes it easier to compare their effect than considering colours and finishes separately.

The E-Type is a concept and process example. Its design visualisations show ideas being explored and brought together, rather than a completed modified car.

A customer design journey with the Cobra

A customer’s Cobra shows how the process can help develop a personal brief. Research explored competition and hillclimb influences, period colours and markings, and the character of hand-worked aluminium alongside the owner’s preferences.

The team developed eight consistent virtual reference views from assessment photographs of the actual car. These interpreted views provided a starting point for colour and stripe studies. The customer could compare alternatives, explain what felt right and refine the details with the team through the build diary.

The selected visual direction combines Californian Sage with a yellow transverse nose stripe, without roundels. Customer feedback in the diary refined the colour preference and where colour should be applied.

That is the value of the exchange: research informs the options, design makes them easier to judge, and the owner’s response helps shape a more specific brief. The heritage references support a personal interpretation, rather than a claim to reproduce an exact historic livery or paint formula.

The Cobra studies visualise the intended finish rather than document completed paintwork.

Turn the chosen direction into a practical plan

Once a direction is chosen, the team can investigate what it will take to achieve it. Paint and trim choices need physical samples. Proposed changes to components or bodywork require inspection, measurement and feasibility checks; technical drawings can help develop the details.

Auto RARA technicians and relevant specialists apply their judgement throughout. Visual concepts guide that work, while engineering development establishes what can proceed.

This supports a clearer scope and project-specific estimations. The Studio exercise, deliverables, costs, timing and any subsequent workshop work are discussed individually before commitment.

See the Studio in Derby

Auto RARA’s Derby hub at Great Northern Classics brings together the demo lounge, assessment centre, trim studio and reassembly area. Our wider workshop operations continue across other locations.

Demonstrations are by arrangement at 274–278 Osmaston Road, Derby DE24 8AE. Bring your ideas and discuss how the process could help you explore the possibilities for your car.
